Throughout this website, you will find a lot of resources to help your staff and the event operate smoothly and for everyone to have a fun time! Please take a moment to read through some instructions highlighted below!
Set up the games (if you have any of them) to practice and get your participants more confident that they can participate. For example, offer to help time participants on the treadmill, bring in a bean bag set from home, encourage participants to share their passion for cooking and try a recipe in your rehab program.
Post posters throughout your rehab area regarding the events to recruit potential participants. You can find some of these flyers on the What to Expect- Participants page. Recruit, Encourage, Coerce =), and Empower your participants to attend the games. The event is truly more fun if more people attend! Sell them on the event and offer the opportunity to attend to every participant in your program- no matter what their ability level is (Remember most of these games are not necessarily physical ability based, so almost everyone can participate and have the opportunity to succeed). Show your participants the video on the home page (many, many times!) along with the photos that are shared throughout this website.
How to get participants physically to the games?? Get creative! Organize or ask a program participant to organize a ride share or carpooling/caravaning effort to get to the games. Reserve a hospital vehicle to transport your team. Talk to your hospital foundation/auxiliary/donors/patients about getting funds to rent a small bus or even a larger transport van. Ask fellow staff members to borrow a van or an extra vehicle. Some of your participants may be adverse to participating in the games, but would enjoy driving to the games. There are ways to get your participants there. If all else fails, the Casino usually can allure some of your hesitant participants.
On the day of the event, please bring prizes from your hospital- search out for free prizes, talk to your marketing team. Participants enjoy leaving the games with something, even if it is something small.
On the day of the event, arrive at Ho-Chunk House of Wellness by 9AM to help set up events and be oriented to the Summary of Events. Please provide your participants a hospital t-shirt. This is not required, but is great for team building and for quick identification of program affiliation.
If you are able to attend, please bring as many staff and / or volunteers to ensure that all stations are properly manned to deal with increased participants. Even if you have more staff than what you initially registered for on the Facility Registration page, please bring them along! Extra shirts are typically available for staff and we would all benefit from having extra staff to facilitate the games!
Each event may be tried only one time. Also, you may skip the practice attempts if you would like, but you need to let the event staff member know prior to attempting the event.
